Demolition of the NRTF Antenna Towers
US Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland
US Department of the Navy – EFA, Chesapeake Division
The Navy shore VLF/LF transmitter facilities transmitted a 50-baud submarine command and control broadcast that was the backbone of the submarine broadcast system, during World War II. As a function of the realignment the transmitter facilities were abandoned and scheduled for removal.
As part of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC), the Navy Radio Transmitter Facility (NRTF) in Annapolis was planned for closure.
Brudis & Associates, Inc. successfully developed a complete design/build program, which involved a quality based selection of the contractor, for the felling, demolition and removal of 19 antenna towers ranging from 1,200 feet to 80 feet in height. Several of the towers were structurally tied together and needed to be felled simultaneously, while other need to be removed in sections to avoid site damage.
BAI also developed site restoration specifications and cost estimates, for the existing impacted utilities, seawall and the Chesapeake Bay Causeway and provided design specifications/details for the base’s golf course reconstruction at two of the felled towers areas. In addition, since native osprey was using the antenna towers, BAI designed osprey-nesting platforms for the Seahawks.

MD Department of Natural Resources Maintenance Facility Buildings
Maryland Department of General Services
Brudis & Associates, Inc. developed a 2-story, 2,400 square foot maintenance-building prototype that was then used at multiple locations throughout the State’s Park network. The design was then site adapted to specific locations by BAI and successfully constructed at the Merkle State Park in Prince George’s County, and the Fair Hill State Park in Cecil County.

Lake Bonnie Dam Fish Passage
Maryland Department of General Services
Brudis & Associates, Inc. successfully prepared construction documents for an Alaskan Steep-Pass Fish Ladder at the Lake Bonnie Dam in Caroline County. BAI also provided construction phase services, including administration, inspection, shop drawing review and small dam certification.
